Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 includes children in Years 1 & 2 (Age 5 - 7).  At All Saints’ this includes children in Leas Foot & Sedgewell Cove Classes.



  • Speaking and listening (speaking, listening, group discussion and interaction, drama, standard English and language variation)
  • Reading (reading strategies, reading for information, literature and language structure and variation)
  • Writing (composition, planning and drafting, punctuation, spelling, handwriting and presentation, standard English and language structure)


  • Number (using and applying number, numbers and the number system, calculations, solving numerical problems and processing, representing and interpreting data)
  • Shape, space and measures (using and applying shape, space and measures, understanding patterns and properties of shape, understanding properties of position and movement and understanding measures)

  • Life processes and living things (life processes, humans and other animals, green plants, variation and classification and living things in their environment)
  • Materials and their properties (grouping materials and changing materials)
